Kevin Hanrahan is an active percussion educator and performer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music (Chicago, IL), and a Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN). Currently, Kevin resides in Frisco, Texas where he teaches percussion at Prosper High School and Reynolds Middle School. In his free time Kevin performs with the Dynamic Rhythm Entertainment and FC Dallas Drum lines, as well as operate his chamber ensemble, Odd River.

 

During Kevin’s tenure in Tennessee, he served as the graduate teaching assistant to Dr. Andrew Bliss. He performed regularly with the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra, where he held the title of Principal Percussionist and Timpanist. Kevin also taught applied lessons, percussion methods, percussion ensemble, accessory class, timpani class, and aided in undergraduate recital preparation. He also functioned as the equipment manager of the percussion studio and percussion festival administrative assistant. 

 

 

While living in Chicago, Kevin taught with several different schools. Most notably: Lyons Township HS (La Grange, IL), Maine West HS (Des Plaines, IL), Marist HS (Chicago, IL), and BOA semi-finalist Lake Park HS (Roselle, IL). Here, he also taught music at the middle school, elementary school, and special education level. 

 

Kevin has been actively involved in both DCI and WGI since 2006. He has been a member of Pioneer Indoor, NorthCoast Academy, The Phantom Regiment, and The Santa Clara Vanguard, to name a few. During his membership, Kevin aided in capturing one World Championship (Phantom Regiment 2008), two Fred Sanford High Percussion Awards (Phantom Regiment 2008, 2010), and two WGI Gold Medals (Pioneer Indoor 2007, 2008). He has also been a staff member of Green Thunder Percussion and the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Currently, Kevin is the battery coordinator of Vigilanties Indoor Percussion (ViP), from Forth Worth, Texas.

Kevin has also had the privilege of performing at professional conferences across the country, such as American Bandmasters Association (ABA), Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), The Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMM Fest), as well as multiple times at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. He is also a member of Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

 

Throughout his time as a musician, Kevin has had the privilege of studying with several fantastic teachers and professors including: Kevin Lepper, Dr. Andrew M. Bliss, Dr. Gary Sousa, James Fellenbaum, Paul Rennick, Bret Kuhn, Tyler Orbison, Brian “Chavez” Lowe, Huei Pan, Mike Chiodo, and Frank Manna.
